Bank Maintenance Posted by Pembs Anglers team on 18th February 2007
Tree removed from river bank, that was obstructing passage along the path (presenting a danger to passing anglers). Conservation wood piles were created, with brash material to encourage insect life. This was undertaken by the committee working party including a certified chainsaw operator.
Double Figure Sewin landed in Cotsmore. Posted by Pembs Anglers team on 16/07/06 10:30
Despite the slow season Adrian Batty has landed the fish of a life time, a 10lb exactly Sea Trout. It was taken on Tuesday the 4th on the Cotsmore pool. Batty was using a floating lines and a medcine and landed another smaller sea trout only minutes before. With only one other fish of double figures recorded in recent seasons David Natresses 10lb 2oz sea trout, it is encouraging to know that fish this size are still there to be caught. To see a picture please go to the Gallery pages where a few of this seasons other fish that haven been caught can be seen.

Nant-y-Coy mill located in Trefgarne gorge just south of Wolfscastle now sells Pembrokeshire anglers association visitors tickets (day and week) tickets 7 days a week, they are still available in county sports where tackle and valuable advice can be gained. This development enables visiting anglers who enquire at Nant-y-coy to purchase tickets in a location over looking the river, and on a Sunday which was not possible before.
Salmon Spawning. Posted by Pembs Anglers Team on 02-01-2006 07:03
Alan Johnstone.
It has been reported to the PAA by one of our members Alan Johnstone that the Salmon spawning activity has been prodigious this year on the Western Cleddau and its tributeries. On the Anghoff between Wolfscastle and Sealyham heavy spawning activity has taken place, with Alan seeing about 12 pairs of Salmon, and evidence of redds is in abundance, The Western Cleddau above Wolfscastle has also been well utilised by Salmon. Alan walked the main river on 21/1 and saw 5 spent Salmon between Nanty Coy and the Gorgan. Alan has tried to monitor Salmon spawning over many seasons and has never seen anything approaching the level of activity that has taken place this year. This sounds fantastic news and we can only hope that the eggs all successfully hatch. Many thanks to Alan Johnstone for his news.

Introduction to Sewin Fishing
In a bid to encourage new members, an “Introduction to Sewin Fishing” is to take place on 21/22 July 2006, starting from the Treffgarne Gorge Fishing Centre car park at 1900 hrs. Members new to sewin fishing will be paired up with local anglers who will then disappear to their favourite haunts and reveal the secrets of catching the elusive sewin. Further details will be included on the PAA website or contact the Secretary nearer the date.

Bank Maintenance on the Western Cleddau is to take place on the second or third Sunday of each month, starting at 0900 hrs in the Treffgarne Gorge Angling Centre. Contact the PAA if you want to help, then turn up with a good pair of boots/waders, outdoor clothing and a sense of humour!

The PAA are in their fifth year of a sewin re-stocking programme so if you catch a fish that has had its adipose fin clipped, please state so on your catch return and also include length, weight, kept/returned etc. In addition, if you catch a sewin of over 2 lbs, we would greatly appreciate if you could note the length/weight and the stretch that you caught it on. With rentals increasing every year, information is required as to whether a stretch of river that we are leasing is worth the money being paid for it ie is it producing fish?

Please note that ll salmon caught before 16th June 2006 must be returned and all salmon & sewin caught from 7th October to 17th October 2006 must also be returned.

The fish counter in the Haverfordwest fish pass is now producing data which is being recorded on a data-logger in the Council offices. That information has now got to be analysed and we hope to receive that analysis in the near future.

Two sea fishing trips have been booked out of Aberystwth on Thursday 15th June 2006 (0900 - 1945 hrs) and Thursday 6th July 2006 (0800 -1800 hrs) with Dave Taylor. A proposed reef fishing trip has been booked on the Celtic Warrior out of Neyland on Sunday 20th August 2006. Members wishing further details should contact the secretary.

The PAA will again be involved in Pembrokeshire Fish Week which starts on Saturday 24th June 2006 at Milford Docks. There will be a PAA stand in Milford Docks so come along and show your support for what is proving to be a popular event in the Pembrokeshire calendar. We are also running a Disabled fishing day at Treffgarne Gorge Angling Centre on Wednesday 28th June 2006. This event goes from strength to strength, with over 30 people turning up last year! Look on the PAA website for further details nearer the date of the event or contact rjpilcher@hotmail.co.uk

Cormorants Cormorants are becoming a real problem on the Western Cleddau so if any member sees thes birds on the river could they note the number, size, location, activity, date and time. Pictures of the birds would also be appreciated. Members can either send the sightings/pictures to the Secretary or to the PAA website via the contact page.
